The Decorah Fire Department responded to a capsized canoe on the Upper Iowa River near the Cattle Creek Road at about noon Tuesday.
According to the Department, the canoers were unable to get out of the water. When firefighters arrived at the scene, firefighters deployed their inflatable raft and their flat bottom boat and started searching upstream and downstream from the bridge.
The Cresco Fire Department also was dispatched to the scene and deployed a boat upstream to assist with the search and rescue.
With the help of the Iowa State Patrol, the canoers were located and safely rescued by fire department and law enforcement personnel.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Winneshiek ambulance and First Responders also assisted.
