Decorah's Porter House Museum is holding a new fundraiser this summer -- an “Art, Antiques and Adventure Auction.”

The event is Saturday, June 28, from 4-6 p.m., on the grounds of the museum at 401 W. Broadway, and will include live music, refreshments, wine and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit general operations at the museum, as well as ongoing preservation and restoration efforts.

“We didn't want a generic fundraiser,” says Emily Mineart, on behalf of the Porter House. “We wanted something special and meaningful. The silent auction covers the three most important facets of the museum's story: art, history and adventure. The Porters were adventurous people with creative impulses who adored the natural beauty of our region. There is much in their legacy that resonates with today's Decorah community.”

All silent auction items have been donated specifically for this fundraiser. So far, items have been donated by Doug Eckheart, Carl Homstad, Milkhouse Candles and Gifts, Trout River Log Cabin, Decorah Bicycles, Dragonfly Books, Nancy Lerdall, What's New Antiques, Story People, Shady Lane Antiques and many more. The auction will feature live music by members of the Bread and Butter String Band and refreshments provided by McCaffrey's Dolce Vita. Rubaiyat is contributing the wine.

Admission is $10 per person—or $15 total for two people, if someone attends with a spouse or friend.  For more information about this fundraiser, call 563-382 8465 or send an email to
