The Winneshiek County Women, Land and Legacy committee will host a workshop with two presentations Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 1 - 3:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau building.

Todd Duncan, Winneshiek County district conversationist will present "Cover Crops and Their Benefits," and Myron Friesan of Farm Financial Strategies of Osage will present "Leaving Your Legacy."

Light refreshments will be served.

The workshop is set up for individuals who want to learn more about cover crops and their benefits. Land that is highly erodible that does not have a heavy cover over the winter months may benefit greatly from this practice.

"Radishes and turnips are just a few of the great cover crops. Come and find out why," said Julie Vulk, executive director of Winneshiek County Farm Service Agency.

Friesen's presentation will assist those who want to know how to protect and pass on their inheritance: where to start and what resources are available.

To reserve your spot, RSVP by calling the Winneshiek County FSA office at 563-382-8777, or email: julie.vulk@ia.usda.gov by Feb. 24. This workshop is sponsored in part by the Women, Land and Legacy committee, Iowa State University Extension Service, Farm Service Agency, Natural Resource and Conservation Service, the Winneshiek Soil and Water Conservation District, Viking State Bank, Farm Bureau, Northeast Iowa Community College, Security State Bank and Bank of the West.
