The Winneshiek County Protectors (WCP) will travel to Des Moines this week to discuss frac-sand mining this week.

Members of the WCP will meet with several Iowa legislators to discuss the issues related to silica sand mining in Northeast Iowa. Together with the Allamakee County Protectors, the Winneshiek group will speak to leaders of both parties.

Lyle Otte, spokesman for the WCP said, "We will try to preserve local control over future frac-sand mining. County and city governments should keep control over the mining, processing and transporting of silica sand in their areas. We know what is best for our own country-side."
