Decorah Water Superintendent Todd Ihde wants residents to be prepared for colder weather.
With low temperatures forecasted to drop near zero by the end of the week, Ihde reported during Monday night's City Council meeting that citizens should check their basements and crawl spaces to make sure there is some heat near their water pipes.
"You don't want to wake up with a broken water line. Now is the time to look at it before it's too late," he said.
Ihde said a heater or heat tape could help avoid problems with freezing.
