A few new upgrades at Winneshiek Medical Center could help save time and money in the long run.

At last week's meeting of the Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees, Chief Financial Officer Lynn Luloff presented the Board with more than $233,000 in capital equipment requests.

The Medical Center will purchase a new program, Nuance DRAGON Medical 360 Network Edition, which will allow the emergency department and urgent care patient care areas to dictate directly into a patient's electronic medical record.

The product allows "front-end voice recognition," which directly translates dictation into the electronic record.

"This will save us the cost of transcription services on the backend," said Luloff.

In addition, the Board approved the purchase of 10 user licenses for Meditech Medical Practice Management at a cost of $80,000.
