Two loaders from Bruening Rock Products in Decorah were used to help pull a semi out of a ditch off Highway 139 early Thursday morning.
A semi rollover closed Highway 139 north of Highway 9 most of Thursday morning.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday. The semi driven by Casey Carver, 35, Sioux City, was pulling a fully loaded cattle trailer with 31 head of finished steers weighing 1,300 to 1,500 pounds.
The semi driver had minor injuries as a result of the crash. Several head of cattle were deceased or severely injured in the accident.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department was assisted by a "team effort" that included the Decorah Police Department Dispatch, Cresco Police Department, Cresco Fire Department, Howard County Sheriff's Department, Decorah Police Department, Lynch Livestock, Decorah Sales Commission, Fisk's Farm & Home Supply, Winneshiek County Engineer, Bill's Towing, Bruening Rock Products and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Carver did not require medical attention at the scene. The driver of a Channel 3 News vehicle that went into the ditch after covering the semi accident also was uninjured and there was no damage to her vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation. The road reopened to traffic at about 11 a.m. Thursday.
