State Representatives Roger Thomas and Pat Murphy will speak at a Winneshiek County Democratic fundraiser at Pinter's Garden and Pumpkin Patch 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.

Thomas represents District 55, which includes much of Winneshiek County, and Pat Murphy represents District 99 in Dubuque.

Thomas is serving his seventh term in the Iowa House. He is a ranking member of the Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa committee and also serves on the Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, Ways and Means, Transportation and Infrastructure and Capitals Appropriations subcommittees.

Murphy has 24 years experience in the Iowa House and has been speaker of the house. Currently his committee assignments include: Human Resources, Labor, Government Oversight and Transportation. He is one of the primary candidates for the District One Congressional seat, which will be open when Bruce Braley runs for the Senate.

The fundraiser will be an informal event with an opportunity to visit with the state representatives as well as Supervisors Mark Kuhn and Dean Thompson. Pinter cupcakes and lemonade, and/or wine are all on the menu for the garden party.

Participants will be welcome to walk Pinter's and enjoy the flowers. There is no charge, but free will offerings to the local Democrats are encouraged.
