The Winneshiek County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Winneshiek County Courthouse.

The Commission will discuss a recent resolution passed by the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors requesting the Commission issue a recommendation on a possible county moratorium on frac-sand mining.

Two weeks ago, the Supervisors approved the resolution on a 4-0 vote, asking the Commission to "provide input on the adoption of a moratorium on the consideration and/or approval of conditional-use permits for industrial frac-sand mining."

This will be Commission's initial discussion on the topic.

According to Planning and Zoning Chair Dan Langreck, although there will be opportunity for public comment, this meeting is not a public hearing.

Public hearings by both the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Supervisors will take place at a later date.
