The Hugh and JaDene Wegner building, 112 East Main St., Ossian, will be the location of Winneshiek Medical Center's new family medicine and rehabilitation clinic in Ossian.
"We have already evaluated the current layout of the building and are actively creating blueprints and beginning to order materials for the new clinic," says Nick Schwartzhoff, director of engineering at WMC and project lead for the Ossian clinic renovation.
"The Wegner building is ideal for a dual purpose clinic - essentially, one side will be dedicated to family medicine and the other to rehabilitation. We look forward to beginning the renovation in November to provide a modern and comfortable clinic space for people in the southern Winneshiek County townships and nearby communities."
Dave Rooney, clinic administrator at WMC says, "We are pleased with the downtown location of the new clinic. Mr. and Mrs. Wegner are already making improvements to the front sidewalk and the external features of the building in preparation for its new purpose."
The WMC Board of Trustees approved plans to open a full-time family medicine and rehabilitation clinic in Ossian at its Oct. 9 meeting. This followed the Ossian Crown Club's presentation of a "Petition of the People" containing upwards of 850 signatures (more than the entire population of Ossian) to the Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees last spring, requesting "Winneshiek Medical Center fill a great need in our area by opening a clinic in the city of Ossian."
In addition to family medicine and rehab services, the new clinic will also offer laboratory services on site, including walk-in wellness testing, a low-cost option for people who want to monitor their own health in an easy and convenient way without a doctor's written order.
Chris Reilly, president of Reilly Construction in Ossian said, "On behalf of the Reilly family and all of our employees at Reilly Construction, we are very pleased Winneshiek Medical Center has made the choice to open a clinic in Ossian. Everyone in the community will be able to enjoy great benefits from having health services locally."
He adds, "We want to thank the staff and all the people at Winneshiek Medical Center for making this possible."
