The Oneota Community Food Co-op's meat/seafood department has been recognized by the National Cooperative Grocers Association as a top performer in its fresh departments of 2012.

The fresh departments tracked for the award are meat, deli and produce.

As part of the national perishables program, the National Cooperative Grocers Association supplies a quarterly report of financial performance indicators for its fresh departments. The National Cooperative Grocers Association has a membership of 134 co-ops in 36 states with combined sales of more than $1.5 billion.

"This award means a lot to the Co-op. We put a lot of effort and time working with our local meat producers to provide a variety of fresh and frozen meat options that are humanely raised and free of antibiotics and growth hormones. We are thrilled to have won this award two years in a row," said Co-op Grocery Manager and Meat/Seafood Buyer Kristin Evenrud.

Located in downtown Decorah, Oneota Community Food Co-op is a cooperatively-owned grocery store specializing in organic, local and sustainably produced products since 1974.
