Mayo Clinic Health System and Winneshiek Medical Center (WMC) in Decorah welcome Steven Davis, M.D., F.A.C.S. to the medical practice.
A general surgeon, Davis performs consultation and surgery for a broad range of medical conditions and body systems including the breast, endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, colon, liver, pancreas and rectum.
Hailing from Nebraska, Davis received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha, and completed his residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Upon finishing his residency, the surgeon relocated to Waterloo in 1986, where he has since provided general surgery services to Northeast Iowa patients.
Davis is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Iowa Medical Society. He is certified through the American Board of Surgery.
"Winneshiek Medical Center's affiliation with Mayo Clinic Health System is the primary reason I relocated my practice," David said. "The Mayo Clinic value of 'the needs of the patient come first' is a value I hold as well, and I look forward to working with a like-minded group of health care providers."
Davis and his wife, Patti, have six children who live in all corners of the country.
"Iowa is a central location to my children and four grandchildren, and Decorah offers an appealing lifestyle for Patti and me," he continued.
Throughout his years as a general surgeon, Davis has developed special interest in hernia repair, gall bladder disease, thyroid masses and breast care.
"I look forward to enhancing and increasing access to these services at Winneshiek Medical Center," he said.
Referring to his practice, Davis said, "I enjoy being a problem solver. As a general surgeon, I can fix things as opposed to managing chronic diseases. For example, if a patient has gall bladder disease, I can remove their gall bladder and relieve their pain. It is a gratifying line of work."
Davis is one of seven full-time Mayo Clinic Health System surgeons at Winneshiek Medical Center. He joins Hamid Kakavandi, D.O. (General Surgery); William Remington, M.D. (ENT); Brad Orvis, M.D. (Urology); Thomas Marquardt, D.P.M (Podiatry); Glenn Johnson, M.D. (Orthopedic Surgery); and Bruce Wulfsberg, M.D. (Orthopedic Surgery) in providing surgical care to northeast Iowa patients.
Davis is accepting new patients at Winneshiek Medical Center (WMC). For an appointment, call WMC at 563-382-2911.
