NWS says risk for severe weather starts at 3 p.m.
According to the NWS, the risk for severe weather starts today at 3 p.m. and continues through 8 p.m. this evening. The area extends from the Iowa/Minnesota border south to Interstate 80. Severe Potential will be determined by where the storms first fire.
Main risks are flash flooding, possibility of hail (one to two inches), strong winds and also tornadoes. The possibility for locally heavy rain is possible in these storms, but the NWS does not currently see a threat for widespread heavy rain. Storms will move from northwest and central Iowa to the east/northeast at approximately 25-30 mph.
After this system moves through, the forecast calls for the next few days to be cooler and drier.
