Three five-minute documentary films produced by Luther College's Thomas C. Johnson, post-doctoral teaching fellow in communication studies, and Michael Crowe, class of 2013, will be screened  at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Franklin W. Olin building, Room 102.



The films, "Hours with Amanda," "Hours with Ben" and "Hours with Novian," profile Luther faculty members Amanda Hamp, class of 2001, Ben Moore, class of 2002, and Novian Whitsitt. A brief question and answer session will follow the screening. Both are open to the public with no charge for admission.



Johnson and Crowe worked to create an intimate portrait of the three Luther faculty. Hamp, assistant professor of dance, Moore, assistant professor of art, and Whitsitt, professor of Africana studies and English, reflect on where they find balance--in cycling, writing, painting, solitude, dancing, fishing and more. This student/faculty collaborative research project was funded by Luther's Dean's office.



At Luther, Johnson teaches Masculinity in Film; Internet and American Life; Urban America and Serial Television: Critically Analyzing The Wire; Sport, Media, and Society; Concepts of Media Production I and Concepts of Media Production II: The Documentary. He is developing new courses in digital media and media production. He served as a producer for Apex Video productions from 2000-09, and as a lecturer and graduate instructor at the University of Minnesota from 2004-11.



Johnson holds a bachelors degree in communication and political science from St. John's University, and a master's and Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Minnesota.



Crowe, in his senior year at Luther, is majoring in English and serves as the editor-in-chief of Chips, the school's student newspaper. For the past year he has worked as a stringer for KWWL television, covering stories on-demand in the Decorah area for their nightly regional news broadcast. This past fall Crowe worked for USA TODAY as a collegiate correspondent, submitting weekly pieces for publications on USA TODAY's college blog.
