The Lake Meyer Nature Center will sponsor a field trip to Chipera Prairie Sunday afternoon, Oct.14, to look for migrating birds.
Participants are asked to meet in the Chipera Prairie parking lot at 2 p.m.
Those attending are reminded to bring binoculars and a bird book, as the group will be concentrating on identifying confusing sparrow species.
Event organizers said Chipera Prairie is a great place to see migrating sparrows in the fall with all the brushy thickets, and those participating can expect to see white-throated, fox and song sparrows. Lincoln's sparrows and Harris' sparrows are possible too, and American tree sparrows could be arriving for the winter as well.
