The Winneshiek County Protectors have presented 1,350 signatures on a petition supporting a 24-month moratorium on frac-sand mining to the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors.
At Monday's meeting, WCP's Lyle Otte presented the signatures, which Supervisor Dean Thompson noted represents 6.5 percent of Winneshiek County.
A copy of the petition will also be presented Tuesday evening during the Winneshiek County Planning and Zoning Commission's public hearing on a moratorium, where the Commission will be seeking evidence-based research both for and against frac-sand mining in Winneshiek County.
The public hearing is Tuesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Winneshiek County Courthouse.
