At the Humane Society Pet Expo Saturday at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds, winners of the first annual essay contest were announced. Essays were to address how a pet has benefited their life. First place winners received $75, second place $50 and third place $25. In the K-5 division winners were: 4th Mya Redinius, 3rd Katie Storlie, 2nd Nicolas Vergara, 1st Kalea Oftedahl. In the middle school division the winners were: 3rd Dawson Bauer, 2nd Robert Berger, 1st Kameron Sikkink. In the high school division the winners were: 3rd Maggie Breitenstein, 2nd Senia Sikkink, and 1st Daiton Tietz. Winning essays will be published in the HSNEI monthly newsletter.
