Decorah High School has named Eric Fulsaas as the recipient of the Norman C. Bradish Scholarship for the 2012-13 school year.
The scholarship was originally awarded to James Ostlie, who declined the award.
Norman Bradish created a scholarship to go to a male graduate of Decorah High School who possesses high academic ability and curiosity, is liked by peers and adults and displays high standards of character. The recipient must agree to attend a college outside the state of Iowa, and it must be a non-religious institution. Also, the student must remain unmarried until finishing his studies.
Fulsaas is going to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering and major in civil engineering. Fulsaas has been active in Decorah High School and the community. He is a member of the golf team that won the state title last year.
He has competed in Mock Trial, Future Problem Solvers, and HiMCM (a mathematical modeling competition). He has won recognition on the state, national and international levels in these competitions. He is a highly accomplished string bass player for the orchestra, performing at the All-State Festival three times and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Fulsaas serves the school and community through coaching middle school Mock Trial teams, teaching string bass lessons in the summer and tutoring fellow students in math and science.
He is the son of Jerome and Jannelle Fulsaas of Decorah.
