Tyler T. Hemesath, 25, Ossian, reportedly fled an accident scene at about 12:24 a.m. Friday and is not disclosing his whereabouts.

According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Hemesath was westbound on Highway 52 and ran the stop sign at the intersection with B-32. Hemesath continued west and his vehicle slid out of control and into the south ditch where it struck a fence and a utility pole.

The driver left the scene and could not be located. A Sheriff's Department news release stated Hemesath confirmed with his family that he was the driver involved in the accident and was at a safe location, which he would not disclose. The accident remains under investigation with charges pending.

The Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Calmar Police Department, Ossian Fire Department, Calmar Fire Department and jaws of life, Decorah Police Department Dispatch, First Responders, Alliant Energy and Bills Towing.

Hemesath's 1997 Chevrolet was a total loss.
