Danielle Dotzenrod and her boyfriend/business partner Chris Bunch in their new restaurant, Dotzy’s, located in Elgin.
Danielle Dotzenrod always knew she'd return to her roots.
After a 13-year stint in Los Angeles, the Spillville native and 1997 South Winneshiek graduate, has come home to Northeast Iowa. But she's not completely leaving her jet-setting lifestyle behind.
"Instead of flying out of LA, I'll be flying out of Waterloo," she told Decorah Newspapers in an interview last week.
The daughter of Jim Dotzenrod of Decorah and Maryern Einck of Calmar, Dotzenrod won a national Elite Look competition when she was 16 and represented the U.S. at an international competition in Korea. That led to modeling jobs and appearances in music videos, including one with Sting, when she sang with the legendary musician.
In 1999 she attended California State -Los Angeles, studying music education, modeling to earn money while going to school. In a 2001 interview with Decorah Newspapers, Dotzenrod said she eventually wanted to become a music teacher.
"I'd love to come back (to Northeast Iowa)," she said at the time.
While she's not coming home to be a music teacher, Dotzenrod has recently opened a new restaurant in Elgin with her boyfriend, Chris Bunch, called Dotzy's.
