Decorah residents have re-elected Mayor Don Arendt and Council member Randy Schissel.

Arendt faced a challenge from Jim McIntosh who moved to Decorah earlier this year.

Due to redistricting, Schissel, who lived in Ward 5 now lives in the new Ward 1. His opponent was Jarrad Walter, who was appointed to fill the Ward 1 vacancy after Council member John Franzen resigned this summer.

Four newcomers were vying for the Ward 4 and 5 openings on the Council. In Ward 4, Bill Wagner defeated Matthew Gausman and in Ward 5, Charles Lore defeated Marion Pruitt-Jefferson.

Council members Gary Rustad, who serves at large; Paul Wanless, Ward 3; and Jody Niess, Ward 2;were re-elected after running unopposed.
