A Decorah man was injured in a Tuesday afternoon accident north of Decorah.

According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Robert Sims, 43, was northbound on Clay Hill Road when he lost control on the ice-covered gravel roadway. Sims' pickup truck entered the west ditch, striking several trees. The driver was extricated by the Decorah Fire Department, utilizing jaws equipment and rescue harnesses with a backboard, and transported by ambulance to the Winneshiek Medical Center for injuries including a broken left arm/wrist and broken left leg.

Sims was transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester where he was listed in fair condition Thursday morning.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Decorah Police Department Dispatch, Decorah Fire Department, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance and Bill's Towing.
