The Decorah Water Department is reminding residents to monitor the water temperatures in their homes and businesses due to the extreme cold and frost depth.
If water temperatures fall below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, call the Water Department at 563-382-5171 for assistance with the problem because water lines could freeze. Basements and crawl spaces must be heated to prevent freezing problems.
The Water Department and Decorah Fire Department are also asking residents who have a fire hydrant on or near their property to shovel and remove any snow around the hydrant to maintain access to them in the event of a fire.
Residents who are unable to clean around hydrants should call for assistance at 563-382-5171.
