The Decorah Social Security office is reducing its hours.
Effective Monday, Oct. 7, the Decorah Social Security office will have new operating hours for the public.
The hours of service will be 9 a.m. - noon, Monday through Friday. The office hours at this location were reduced because Congress significantly cut Social Security's administrative budget.
This change will allow employees, who will continue to work their regular hours, to complete interviews and claims work without using overtime.
Most Social Security services do not require a visit to an office. People age 18 and older may sign up for a Social Security account at socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
With a "my Social Security" account, Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income recipients can now access their benefit verification letter (which serves as proof of income), payment history and earnings record instantly using their online account. Social Security beneficiaries also can change their address and start or change direct deposit information online. If not receiving benefits, people age 18 and older who sign up for a my Social Security account can go online to get a personalized Social Security Statement, secure and convenient access to their earnings and benefit information and estimates of future benefits. In addition, the portal also includes links to information about other online services, such as applications for retirement, disability and Medicare.
Many Social Security services also are available by dialing the toll-free number,
1-800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call our TTY number, 1-800-325-0778.
