The Decorah Police Department reported the weekend of Sept. 6-8 was "exceptionally busy."
The following arrests were made:
Seven charges for possession of a controlled substance
One charge for possession of a controlled substance/possession of alcohol under the legal age
One charge of operating a vehicle while impaired/possession of a controlled substance
One charge of operating a vehicle while impaired
Four public intoxication charges
One charge of public intoxication/possession of drug paraphernalia
"The past weekend's activity suggests that alcohol and drug related issues continue to be a concern," said Police Chief Bill Nixon.
"The concern is especially great when risky behavior and the use of controlled substances is combined with the operation of a vehicle. Most of these arrests involved people under the age of 25. The Police Department will continue to pursue enforcement strategies that target this type of behavior."
James Giddens, 40, Cresco, was charged with second-offense public intoxication after Decorah Police officers were called to the Corner Bar area for a disturbance.
Giddens had allegedly been starting fights and was a main contributor to the disturbance, officers reported. Officers determined Giddens was intoxicated and arrested him.
