ArtHaus is partnering with KWLC Radio of Luther College in presenting the band Count This Penny Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m.
Part old school Emmylou, part Civil Wars, Count This Penny features warm harmonies, great vocals and beguiling stories, both gritty and charming. After their appearance on A Prairie Home Companion, their EP took the no. 6 spot on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart and they've been playing to sold out houses ever since.
"Folks may have a faint idea of what to expect from a band that describes itself as 'Appalachian Pop'...but they'll likely be surprised by how instantly inviting Count This Penny sounds. It's music steeped in old American traditions, but the concise form and pop structures the band employs make the songs modern and streamlined enough to thrive far from the mountains," according to The Onion's A.V. Club review of a recent performance in Madison, Wis.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Seating at ArtHaus (508 W. Water Street) is limited and reservations are strongly recommended. Contact ArtHaus at email@example.com or call 563-382-5440. Doors open at 7:30, the show begins at 8:00, and guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments.
