Decorah City Council member Paul Wanless wants all pet owners to clean up after their animals.

At the Council's last meeting, he said he'd been using the Trout Run Trail within city limits recently and encountered animal waste.

"There were a couple of places where people hadn't picked up after their animals, in this case, large animals," Wanless said.

While he's been told by some horseback riders it can be inconvenient to pick up after their mounts, he said it's also inconvenient for anyone else using the trails to avoid the mess.

"People are supposed to be picking up after their animals in the city," Wanless said.

Council member Gary Rustad said he agreed. He said trail users need to clean up after their animals, whether they are dogs or horses.
