The Decorah City Council approved closing the parking lot at the "Dug Road" trailhead on Main Street, and the adjoining block of Main Street for an upcoming Water Street Music Series concert.
Series coordinator Kate Haller requested the closure of the parking lot and about three yards of Main Street during last week's Decorah City Council meeting. The concert is Saturday, Sept. 7.
However, Council members said a partial street closure could cause congestion. Police Chief Bill Nixon suggested the block of Main Street east of the parking lot be closed, with access allowed for residents only.
Council member Paul Wanless suggested the event organizers inform residents of the street closure.
The closure will be from noon-10 p.m. to allow for set up. "On the Water with Foot-Notes" begins at 6:30 p.m. with a dance lesson, and the folk group Foot-Notes taking the stage at 7 p.m.
Haller said the group would perform until 10 p.m.
"The music will be amplified, but it's Foot-Notes. It's not a heavy metal band," she told the Council.
Haller also said the concert will not block access to the trail, which is part of the Trout Run Trail loop around the city.
Foot-Notes consists of fiddler Beth Hoven Rotto, guitarist Jon Rotto and acoustic bass player Bill Musser. The trio has represented Iowa in performances across the nation. Haller will be a guest performer with the group on saxophone. Donations will be accepted for the concert. A rain location has yet to be determined,
