A forum featuring candidates for Decorah mayor and city council is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. on the Luther College Campus, Valders Hall, room 206.

The forum is sponsored by the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Parking is available in the lot behind Preus Library, accessed via Pool St.

The following candidates are invited to participate: for Mayor, Don Arendt (incumbent) and Jim McIntosh; for city council, Ward 1--Randy Schissel, who previously represented Ward 5, and Jarrad Walter, appointed to the council this past summer; Ward 2-Jody Niess (incumbent and unopposed); Ward 3-Paul Wanless (incumbent and unopposed); Ward 4-Matthew Gausman and Bill Wagner; Ward 5--Marion Pruitt-Jefferson and Chuck Lore; and At-Large-Gary Rustad (incumbent and unopposed).

Due to ward boundary changes following the 2010 census, all city council positions except one At-Large position, currently held by Rachel Vagts, whose term expires 2015, are up for election.

Candidates will give a brief introduction of their backgrounds, qualifications and reasons for seeking office. Each will then respond to written questions from the audience, screened by a committee of the sponsors. All questions will be asked by the moderator, Cathryn Baldner.

There is no cost to attend and the public is welcome. Voter registration and absentee ballot requests will be available at the forum site.

KDEC radio will broadcast the forum live on their AM 1240 station and will re-broadcast on Tuesdays, Oct. 22 at 7:00 pm and Oct. 29 at 12:15 pm.
