The National Weather Service in La Crosse updated its blizzard warning for the area this morning:





...WINTER STORM MOVING TOWARD THE AREA WITH DANGEROUS IMPACTS...



.AN INITIAL WAVE OF LIGHT PRECIPITATION IS SPREADING THROUGH THE

AREA AND SOME LIGHT ICING HAS BEEN REPORTED. THE LIGHT ICING IS

MAINLY ON UNTREATED AND GRAVEL ROADS. LIGHT DRIZZLE OR FREEZING

DRIZZLE IS EXPECTED AFTER 9 AM...UNTIL MORE SIGNIFICANT WEATHER

BEGINS THIS AFTERNOON.



HEAVY SNOW WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON FROM NORTHEAST IOWA AND

SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA...INTO NORTHCENTRAL WISCONSIN. 6 TO 13 INCHES

OF SNOW IS EXPECTED FROM THIS STORM. TRAVEL WILL QUICKLY BECOME

DIFFICULT. TONIGHT...WEST WINDS WILL BE IN THE 25 TO 35 MPH

RANGE...GUSTING TO 50 MPH. THIS WILL CAUSE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS

WITH WHITE OUTS WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. OCCASIONAL WHITE

OUTS ACROSS WESTERN WISCONSIN WILL BE POSSIBLE AS WELL...ESPECIALLY

ON THE RIDGE TOPS AND NORTH OF LA CROSSE. PLAN ON CONSIDERABLE

DRIFTING MAKING ROADS IMPASSABLE IN THE OPEN AREAS OF SOUTHEAST

MINNESOTA AND NORTHEAST IOWA.



ENOUGH WARM AIR WILL BE DRAWN NORTH WITH THE STORM TO KEEP A

WINTRY MIX OF RAIN...SLEET AND SNOW GOING FOR POINTS SOUTH AND

EAST OF LA CROSSE. SNOW TOTALS IN THIS AREA ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE

FROM LESS THAN AN INCH TO 4 INCHES....AND OCCUR TONIGHT.
