A benefit for five-month-old Lochlan Smith is Saturday, Jan. 11.
T.J.'s in Canton, Minn. is hosting a silent auction at the Canton Town Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. T.J.'s is also donating 50 percent of its profits from meals Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. toward Lochlan's medical expenses.
There will also be raffle tickets available for a variety of items. To purchase raffle tickets, contact Julie Quandahl at 563-380-0096.
Lochlan is the son of Rusty and Melissa (Vick) Smith and the grandson of Mark and Vicki Vick of Decorah.
Lochlan was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer, in October and has started chemotherapy treatments. His therapy consists of six rounds of chemotherapy, which means each round requires three days as an inpatient with an IV and then two weeks at home with outpatient treatments once a week. After two rounds of chemo, he will have a CT scan.
If and when the tumor appears reduced and operable, doctors will attempt to remove it, repair his liver and reroute the vessels to the healthy liver. Chemotherapy will continue until March. Once the operation is complete, Lochlan will continue with two more rounds of chemotherapy to ensure all the cancer cells are gone.
Lochlan's cancer is currently at stage three. There is a liver transplant team on standby to locate a live for him if the chemotherapy does not work
