Andy Nimrod has been hired as Decorah's next Parks and Recreation director.

Nimrod grew up in Decorah and received his bachelor's degree in health and sports management from Luther

College.

Nimrod has served as the city's recreation superintendent for 15 years. As the head of the recreation department, Nimrod has been responsible for all youth and adult sports programs, special events, as well as athletic field care and maintenance for the city's many

recreational activities.

In addition to that role, Nimrod has been directly responsible for the cooperative partnership with the Decorah School District to expand and improve the tennis courts and has served a leadership role for the C.R.E.W. after prom program for many

years.

The search for a new director began with the announcement that long time director Rick Edwards was retiring in January 2013. A search team made up of members of City Council, Park-Rec Board, and staff spent considerable time discussing the needs and vision for the department as a whole, during the search.

"The search process was informative for the Board and Council as we discussed the strengths we wanted in our new director. We are excited to have Andy in this position and believe he brings fresh ideas and vision for the department," said Council Personnel Committee Chair Rachel Vagts said.

The appointment of Nimrod to the position needs to be affirmed by the Park Board and City Council and will be on the next agenda for each of those bodies' meetings. Nimrod will officially start in his new role with the city Monday, May 27.
