A Decorah man was injured Wednesday afternoon when he was distracted by his cell phone and lost control of his vehicle.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Dustin Herhold, 19, Decorah, was driving on Locust Road north of Decorah at about 3 p.m. when his vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled over, coming to rest on its wheels.

Herhold was taken by ambulance to Winneshiek Medial Center and airlifted to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse by MedLink Air helicopter.

The 1991 Ford pickup truck he was driving was totaled. There was $350 in damage to a fence owned by Daryl Hovden of Decorah.

According to a Gundersen spokesperson, Herhold was being prepared for discharge Thursday afternoon.
