Fifty-seven Decorah High School musicians participated in the All State Music auditions Saturday, Oct. 20, at West Delaware High School in Manchester, The students prepared difficult musical selections and then competed for spots in the All-State ensembles with students from East central and Northeast Iowa, including the Dubuque and Cedar Rapids schools.

The following students were selected as members or alternates of the 2012

ensembles: Alex Bishop - senior, trumpet, first alternate; Lucas Blekeberg - senior, violin; Claire Breitenstein - senior, bassoon; Aubrey Ellickson - senior, violin; Eric Fulsaas - senior, string bass; Hans Holkesvik - senior, bass; Linnea Kephart - sophomore, alto; Bretta Krieg - senior, soprano; Hannah Leeper - senior, soprano; Maria Mertzenich - junior, alto; James Ostlie - senior, bass; Katie Ott - senior, clarinet; Michael Peter - senior, tenor; Drew Schwartz - senior, cello; Andrew Sorenson - senior, bass; Brad Suhr - junior, tenor; Nick Vande Krol - Junior, tenor.

The following students were selected for a recall audition: Rebecca Alcock - junior, cello; Rita Marie Guzman - junior, alto; Alexis Hove - junior, soprano; and Kaleb Michel - junior, bass.

Special recognition to Andrew Sorenson for being selected for a fourth year (three years at Hampton-Dumont HS and one year at Decorah HS), and this year's record number of DHS vocalists selected.

The All State musicians are performing in the 602-member chorus, 283-piece band, and 204-piece orchestra from the entire state of Iowa. The concert is at the Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The concert also airs on Iowa Public Television on Thanksgiving Day.
