  • 'Reading Games' at Carrie Lee
    Beginning after Thanksgiving,  area students formed teams and read a total of 20 books as preparation for “Reading Games,” held this week at Carrie Lee Elementary School.

    Several students from St. Benedict's were chosen for Honor Band and Honor Choir, performing in March and April.

    St. Benedict School 6th through 8th graders finished their projects for National History Day and recently took part in the regional event.

    Sixteen students with their 10 projects have earned the right to advance to the state level in Des Moines May 5.

    Six Decorah High School students and three South Winneshiek High School students have been nominated to attend the individual speech all-state festival Monday, March 31, at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

    Turkey Valley High School is performing “The Wizard of Oz” Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 27, 28, and 29, at 7:30 p.m., with a general admission of $5.

  • Forty-one Decorah High School individual speech performers, 19 South Winneshiek High School performers and one Turkey Valley performer competed Saturday, March 15, at the Individual State Speech Contest at Starmont High School. 
    The Individual All-State Festival is March 31, at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Nominations will be announced Monday afternoon.

  • Middle school plays performed March 13
    Decorah Middle School seventh and eighth grade students will present  “A Night of Plays” Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m. in the Middle School cafeteria.  The students will perform a variety of monologues and short skits, including some from “The Carol Burnett Show.”
