Effective Aug. 1, Winneshiek Cooperative and Fredericksburg Farmers Co-op merged as Farmers Win Cooperative.
Earlier this spring, Winneshiek Cooperative Association Manager Doug Van Sloten reported more than 85 percent of the members of both cooperatives had voted in favor of the merger. Van Sloten is assistant general manager of the merged Cooperative.
“We feel that the merger has many advantages and we will be a stronger company together to serve our members in the future,” Van Sloten wrote in the Winneshiek Cooperative Association “Informer” newsletter in April.
Winneshiek Cooperative has provided its customers with agronomy services as well as feed, grain and petroleum.
A “key commitment” will be to “deliver performance that generates a return on member’s investment in their co-op,” Van Sloten said.
“The merger of the two cooperatives will provide farmer-members with additional marketing opportunities, reduced costs and increased efficiencies,” Van Sloten wrote.
Farmers Win Co-op has 14 Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota locations to serve its approximately 2,500 members. Its administrative office is located in Fredericksburg.
The new Farmers Win Co-op will provide customers with expanded services. The former Winneshiek Co-op provided grinding and mixing services in bulk feed for livestock, not offered by the Fredericksburg Co-op that will be available through the merged Co-op. Meanwhile, the Fredericksburg Co-op provided 1,600 customers with LP annually, something that Farmers Win plans to expand to the Winneshiek County area.
