The Winneshiek County Recycling Department will host its “largest clean-up ever” Saturday, April 26, at Winneshiek County Recycling in Freeport.
Household hazardous waste items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon. Document destruction will take place from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and appliances and electronics will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Recycling Coordinator Terry Buenzow said the hazardous waste collection is intended for poisons, pesticides, weed killers, mercy thermometers, oil-based paints, etc.
Buenzow reminded the public latex paint is not considered hazardous.
“Just dry it out and put it in the trash,” said Buenzow.
The Recycling Cener will have a shredder set up all day. The Iowa Senior Medicare Patrol will assist with the shredding.
There is a $10 per-unit fee for regulated appliances and $20 for tube-type TVs and computer monitors. Fees can be pre-paid at Decorah City Hall or at the Recycling Center the day of the clean-up.
All other appliances and electronics will be accepted at no charge.
Buenzow also reminded the public the Recycling Center will accept items following the citywide garage sales.
“If garage sale items haven’t sold by noon, they probably never will. Take them to the community thrift stores or bring them to us anytime,” said Buenzow.
