‘Dancing through the Decades’ is the theme for the 2014 Ossian Fest set for Saturday, August 2.
The annual event, sponsored by the city of Ossian, is organized by the Ossian Crown Club. After the success of last year's fest, the Crown Club voted to keep the event on a Saturday.
A key event during the Fest is the grand parade scheduled for Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The theme provides area businesses and individuals with ideas for designing their floats. Northeast Iowa area business and organizations are encouraged to consider having a parade entry.
For further information or questions or to sign up a parade entry, contact Terri Bushman, parade chairperson, at email@example.com or call (563) 419-3766 or (563)532-9598.
A 5K walk/run begins at 7 a.m.
Registration takes place on Hall Street next to the DeSales Church. A $5 donation to the American Cancer Society is suggested as an entry fee.
A breakfast at Columbus Hall, sponsored by State Bank, follows the race, from 8-10 a.m. A water ball fight, featuring area volunteer fire departments, is scheduled for noon along Mary St. A skid loader rodeo is from 1 -3 p.m. across form the Ossian City Park.
The consignment corral returns to the Ossian City Park from noon-6 p.m. Items will sell for a minimum of $25.
The consignment corral will allow anyone to offer up to three items from each family for sale, but the items must be sold for $25 or more. The Crown Club will attend the corral, so there is no need for sellers to stay with their items during the afternoon. Unsold items and payments must be picked up by 6 p.m.
A number of vendors will sell their wares in the park from noon – 6 p.m. There are no vendor fees for this event.
For more information about the consignment corral or vendor opportunities, call Arlan Paulson at 563-532-9737 or 563-605-1671.
A bags tournament will run from 2-6 p.m. at Carey's Park.
Events for kids and "kids of all ages" begin at noon and include the free "Wessel's Variety Fish Pond" at Bloom's on Main. Activities at Carey's Park include the kids games and activities, "Kids Again Inflatable Fun Show", the dunk tank sponsored by the Ossian LYO and face painting sponsored by CWG Consulting. The Bluff Country Cruiser Show and Shine will be on Mechanic St. from 3 - 6 p.m. A coin dig, sponsored by the Luana Savings Bank, begins at 3:30 p.m.
Food is available throughout the day at various sites including the Winneshiek County Moo Mobile, walking tacos, hot chicken sandwiches, snow cones and popcorn. Additional food booths featuring brats, hot dogs, pork chops on a stick, fried cheese curds and steak sandwiches will be available from 4 p.m. and go through the evening.
Following the grand parade along Main St. at 7 p.m. will be the music of the "Trouble Shooter." The dance will run from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at Carey's Park.
