Due to the severity of recent storms, the city of Decorah is requesting property owners and residents to check for damage to their boulevard trees.
Signs of damage include: broken branches, split tree trunks or any condition that may appear to be unsafe.
Residents who find damage should contact Dave Tollefson, city street commissioner, 382-2157, or city hall, 382-3651, to have a professional inspection of the tree completed.
Property owners also are reminded they are responsible for the care and maintenance of trees in the boulevard adjoining their property. Trees need to be trimmed 8 feet above sidewalks and 14 feet above streets.
The city compost site on Trout Run Road is open 1-7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to noon for city residents to dispose their branches and yard waste.
