EIGHTY YEARS AGO: Luther College has won the first Iowa State Football Conference title in history. The Norsemen defeated the Columbia Duhawks at Dubuque, 21-0. The state title was ultimately decided on the basis of the Stanley Dean system of scoring, whereby the teams are rated according to relative strength of the opponents they played during the season. A banquet to honor the new 1932 champs is in the planning stages.

...It was a landslide victory for President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in the recent presidential election. It was one of the most unprecedented political landslides in the history of the U.S. Roosevelt defeated President Herbert Hoover. Hoover carried only six states, Delaware, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Locals were applauding the finish for Fred Biermann of Decorah, who was elected to Congress over G.N. Haugen.

...The speech class of Decorah High School is presenting three one-act plays later this month. Starring in "Maker of Dreams" is Marjorie Kennard, Donovan Oldridge and Arthur Solheim. Stars of "Dust in the Road" are Willard Linnevold, Walker Sandbach, Leone Rounseville and Justin Hammond; and the cast of "Pot Boilers" features Thomas Roberts, Norman Bredeson, Eleanor Dorrum, Agnes Finberg, Davis Coffeen, Russell Lowery, John Biollow, Les Forde and Carl Jensen.
