David Kamm to present on Civil War at library Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m.

The Decorah Genealogy Association and Winneshiek County Historical Society will hold a program meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the public meeting room of the Decorah Public Library.

Prof. David Kamm of the Luther College art department will present a lecture titled "Ole Rasmussen Dahl and The Southern Prisons of U.S. Officers during the American Civil War."
Ole Dahl was a Norwegian immigrant who volunteered for service in Wisconsin as part of the "Scandinavian Regiment." He was taken prisoner and held for a year in over 30 Southern prisons. During that time he made several sketches of prison life, which were published along with a small booklet folowing his release and discharge from the army.
The presentation will look at several of the images and put them in context with other visual imagery produced during the Civil War.
Program meetings of the Decorah Genealogy Association and the Winneshiek County Historical Society are free and open to the general public.
