Almost-spring contra dance is Saturday, March 15, at the Elk’s Lodge

The Western Home String Band welcomes caller Sue Hulsether back to Decorah for an almost-spring contra dance. The dance is Saturday, March 15, at the Elk’s Lodge.
Basic walking dance moves will be taught at 7:30, and the dance begins at 8. Admission is $7, with kids 12 and under free. Attendees are asled to wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing. All the dances are taught and beginners are welcome.
The Western Home String Band features experienced players and those who are learning the style. You’ll dance to fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo, Irish drum and other acoustic instruments playing reels, jigs and a few waltzes.
Sue Hulsether is one of the best-known Midwestern dance leaders. Based in Viroqua, Wis., she is dedicated full-time to teaching folk dancing to kids through school residencies. On the weekends, Hulsether shares her passion for contra and square dances with beginning and experienced dancers around the region.
